WOBBLINGS

CAUSES

> Blade is mounted on a damaged or worn M/C.

> Blade is not tensioned properly.

> Blade runs at improper speed.

> Blade is bent as a result of twisting.

OUT-OF-ROUND BLADE

CAUSES

> Shaft bearings are worn.

> Engine is not properly turned, causing surges in blade rotation.

> Blade arbor hole is damaged from mismounting.

ARBOR OUT-OF-ROUND

CAUSES

> Blade collar is not properly tightened, permitting blade rotation or vibration on the shaft.

> Worn, bent or dirty flange which do not allow proper blade clamping.

LOSS OF TENSION

CAUSES

> Steel center has been overheating as a result of blade spinning on the arbor or from rubbing the side of material being cut.

> Unequal pressure at blade clamping collars.

> Improper blade specification: blade is too hard for material being cut.

UNEVEN SEGMENT WEAR

CAUSES

> Insufficient water, generally on one side of the blade, which reduces side clearance.

> Equipment defects which cause the segments to wear unevenly.

> Saw head is misaligned.

CRACKS IN STEEL CENTER

CAUSES

> Blade wobbles in cut as a result of loss of blade tension.

> Bond is too hard for material being cut.

BLADE WILL NOT CUT

CAUSES

> Bond is too hard for material being cut.

> Blade has become dull as a result of being used on material that is too hard.

SEGMENT CRACKS

CAUSES

> Bond is too hard for material being cut.

LOSS OF SEGMENT

CAUSES

> Material is not firmly secured.

> Overheating due to insufficient water.

> Steel center is worn from undercutting.

> Defective blade collars are setting blade out of alignment.

> Blade is too hard for material being cut.

> Blade is cutting out-of-round, causing a fluttering motion.

> Improper blade tension.

UNDERCUTTING

CAUSES

> Gradual abrasion of steel center

due to highly abrasive fines generated

during cutting.

CAUTION:

Wear-retardant cores are not always the

solution to avoid  undercutting. Always provide

an adequate amount of water to the steel

center area immediately adjacent to the

segment. This is especially important for

deep cuts.
